In what feels like no time at all, we have reached the end of term. Two essays have been submitted, and the pressure is now on to revise for exams whilst simultaneously making progress with my dissertation. Sifting through Cicero’s works is always a delight, and I’m glad I have had the opportunity to study him in detail, even if it is a daunting task. However, I’m sure I can eat enough Christmas puddings to see me through!
It has been a challenge finding time to appreciate everything this city has to offer this term, but the Christmas Lights on Park Street and the Christmas tree outside the Cathedral were worth making the time for. Excitingly, an ice rink opened directly outside our house! They had adorable penguins you could use to help you learn how to ice skate; I’d have pretended I couldn’t ice skate just so I could have one! Unfortunately I never had a chance to go, but I’ve always loved ice skating, and I did join the Ice Skating Society in my first year of university… sadly, I’m not very good at it. For those that can’t make it up to Clifton of course, there is also an annual ice rink that opens by the Harbourside. In addition, there have been multiple carol services around the university; Woodland Church hold a Laserlight service, which sounds incredibly exciting, and one was also held in Wills Memorial Building. I think it’s wonderful to see the festive spirit kept alive around the University.
In a way, I’m simultaneously looking forward to, and am yet apprehensive about, next year. I know my workload is going to increase as the dissertation deadline draws nearer (and I haven’t been very organised thus far), but I’m certainly looking forward to starting my new units, even if I’m very sad to leave my studies of the Persian Empire and Trojan War behind.. for now!
